HWA Blog - 22.12.2023

Well, that’s a wrap for the Autumn term and what a great week we have had in school.

I would like to start my blog this week by sharing with you the students who received a Head Teacher’s Award for this half term.

Well done and keep up the hard work next half term everyone!

Let’s see what some of the classes have been doing starting with Mrs Lerigo’s class…

“Firstly, I cannot believe we are at the end of Autumn Term. This has been the quickest one ever! The children have been amazing and settled so well into Hollinwood Academy. They have grown so much, not just in height, but in their independence, social skills and communication amongst many other things. I have high hopes and expectations for these little ones and I am excited about what lies ahead.

Anyway, this week, what have we been up to? We have had a super exciting week full of Christmas crafts to writing letters to Santa. In art we have been continuing our work on landscapes. This half term we have been studying the artist Megan Coyle and this week we used her work to inspire our winter landscapes. We made snowy pictures with trees that had no leaves on them, and we discussed that this was because during the winter season leaves have fallen off trees. We made Christmas stockings, reindeer party hats and much more. In cooking we made melted snowmen biscuits and enjoyed eating them up later in the day.

We had the Christmas dinner on Wednesday, and we all wore our Christmas jumpers, and the reindeer hats we had made earlier in the week, we pulled crackers and listened to Christmas music.  On Friday afternoon we had a Christmas party with some of our friends in key stage 1. We played pass the parcel, musical chairs and had a disco.  All in all, we have had a super week and are now ready for the Christmas holiday so that we can rest and get ready for a busy year ahead.

Merry Christmas, Everyone.”

Miss Emma

Now to Miss Harris’ form…

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!

“This week, we have been celebrating CHRISTMAS! It has come around so quickly this year; I know the whole of nurture are excited and I’m sure everybody else is too. The big day is almost here, and we have been bringing it in in style!

We have had Christmas Jumper Day, Christmas Dinner, gift giving, Christmas Markets and Christmas activities. The whole of Hollinwood have been immersed in the festivities. There are some beautiful displays around school including decorations, trees and themed doors. It’s so lovely and warming to walk around and see how excited everyone is.

In 9KHS, we have been completing some very important assessments in English, Geography and science. In English we have been studying persuasive writing and have written some very convincing letters to the mayor of London. In geography, we have been learning all about how to read maps, use coordinates and navigate a compass. In Science, we have been learning about cells and the human body. There has been some fabulous work being done! We may have some biologists in the making!

9KHS have had a very positive, and productive half term. We are taking ownership of our work, increasing our independence and building key relationships with other students and staff. There are some beautiful bonds forming in class.

This entire half term has been an eventful one.

This half term, 10ADS have been studying ‘Holes’ in targeted support lessons. They have been learning about injustice, accountability and perception vs reality. To round it off, this week they completed a brilliant mock trial with some stellar acting performances. Particularly from our resident judge who did not disappoint!

Key Stage 4 have completed their mocks and achieved fantastic results across the board. We are all endlessly proud of their progress and look forward to next term to watch them all keep up the amazing work and aim even higher!”
